2024 Year-end Letter
Let's Keep the Water Flowing!!
As 2024 comes to a close we at BCLT are grateful for the ability to continue to do all of the work that improves the wildlife habitats at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. Together, we look forward to all of the important work that needs to be done in 2025.
Your year-end donation will support the repair of the West and Central Water Control structures within the wetlands, which is urgently needed at a cost of $30,000. The pumps, pipes, and equipment which keep the water flowing within the lowlands were put in place during the wetland restoration in 2005. We know too well that infrastructure in salt water will only last for so long. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s on-site staff have done everything possible to maintain the functioning of the site, including running out in the middle of the night to fix broken equipment to protect the habitats as the tides ebb and flow.
“Repairing water control structures and other infrastructure is essential for maintaining the health of the wetlands and ecosystem, as they regulate water levels and flow, ensuring the right conditions for diverse plants and animal species. Improved water management can enhance habitat quality and support biodiversity.” Melissa Borde, California Department of Fish and Wildlife Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Manager
A handful of our amazing members have collectively pledged $15,000 to kick off the effort to inspire your year-end gift. That means that your donation will be matched! At this holiday time, let’s give the greatest gift we can give to the wetlands at Bolsa Chica, and let’s keep that water flowing!
