Help Make Miracles
Our Miracles team is busy getting schools started for the 22nd season of BCLT’s Miracles of the Marsh 3rd-grade science education program. Starting in January, our amazing docents will lead 30+ tours for students who come from public elementary schools in Huntington Beach and 11 other surrounding cities. Last year, 77% of the 1,700 students came from Title 1 schools, which are schools that are in areas where not less than 40% of the students are from low-income families. For many of these students, coming to Bolsa Chica is the only field trip they will have this school year.
Highly valued by teachers, our Miracles of the Marsh program has brought over 32,000 3rd graders to Bolsa Chica. These students are learning about the world around them and the wonders of nature. We work hard to spark curiosity, to make connections, and to show them the amazing beauty that can be found so close to home. The tours bring to life what these students are learning about in the classroom and immerse them in our natural coastal environment.
To keep the Miracles program running, we need your support to help fund the student workbooks each child receives, school bus costs, docent materials, and staff salary. We also need more docents — the more we have the more students we can bring out to Bolsa Chica. Please make a donation today, and if you are interested in becoming a docent, please reach out to Kim@bclandtrust.org for training information.
