I missed the last Stewards work day last Sunday because I was sick, so I don’t have any photos or stories from that day.

I heard it was a small group and they got the last of the previous work day’s plants in the ground, and weeded a lot of the weeds that had popped up in the Jr. Stewards’ area.

So instead of pictures of the work day, here is a picture I took of the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) up in the Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis) a few weeks ago.  The Great Blue Herons annually nest in the palms at the Point, and this year is no exception.  Right now you can watch the males fly around gathering sticks to rebuild their nests and attract females.  Later in the season (beginning of Spring) the female will lay 2-6 eggs which will hatch in about a month’s time.  The babies are adorable if you ask me with their dramatic mo-hawks.  Keep an eye out when you go walking Bolsa Chica, you might just see them in the trees.
