Kicking off the first day of the 2015-2016 planting season!
The Bolsa Chica Stewards were joined by 92 members of the Paramount High School Green Club and Huntington Park High School’s AVID program for the kickoff to the planting season. We planted 225 native grasses on the mesa, a hundred yards past the first bench. We tried a new method this time, soaking the empty holes to moisten the dry ground prior to putting in a new plant. We’ll see how the plants survive! Thanks to all the Stewards and Junior Stewards who provided proper supervision to ensure that plants were planted even with the ground surface, not in a concave depression or a convex mound. Thanks to Erin, who got us started despite her illness. A special shout out to Devyn Douglas, whose video from last year was shown earlier to Paramount HS kids to give them a tutorial on planting, berms, and tickling the roots!!
