Plan B
Every time we have a restoration day, I not only have Plan A but Plan B and even Plan C. Most of the time Plan A goes off without a hitch. Sometimes, however, things don’t go according to plan.
Last Saturday we had the Sierra Club out and some National Charity League mothers and daughters to help out on the Mesa. We were originally only going to water the native plants. However, the water truck was, unfortunately, late. So we had to go to Plan B. So instead of watering right away, we pulled out the hoes and started off digging up Russian thistle (Salsola tragus). It’s a very prickly plant and it was popping up in small patches near our work area. Eventually, the water truck did arrive so we stacked our tools and proceeded to water the grasses and flowering tar plants. Everyone was very flexible and worked very diligently despite the high heat. To finish the day, I gave the Sierra Club a well-deserved tour of the Mesa.
And to make the day even better, one of our Core Stewards was generous enough to bring a very refreshing watermelon to share! Thanks Randy!
